I’m not sure why but it seems that because boys were kinda forgotten about with wallpapers for some time, designers have seen boys as a niche market and produced some fabulous wallpapers for them, so nice that parents won’t mind playing musical beds the occasional night if they can be surrounded by these beautiful wallpapers and return to their childhoods!
Victoria Cramsie launched Paperboy in 2009, mother of 2 young boys, she decided to design her own range of wallpapers for their room and they are, oh, so gorgeous.
Here is one of her new designs which will be launched at 100% Design later this month. ‘Ere Be Dragons’ is a perfect fairytale wallpaper for boys, showing a young boys interacting with dragons and knights from olden times in front of medieval castles. See him offer some food to a baby dragon, fly a dragon on a kite, fighting a dragon and a knight, is he stealing that egg from the dragon or rescuing it? – There is so much here to help a child’s imagination and as a parent, I love it too. ‘Ere Be Dragons’ wallpaper can be purchased online here and it is £60/€72 per roll. Available in four colourways, here it is in blue:
Look at the detail in this – the trust between them, the baby dragon with its eye on the apple and the little boy looking to engage with the dragon – beautiful.
Launched in 2010 is the Zagazoo wallpapers by Osborne and Little in collaboration with Quentin Blake – here’s two of my favourites from the collection and you can purchase them online here at £35 per roll.
Also by Paperboy is the ‘Spitfires’ wallpaper, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the wartime Spitfire. Our sons will never fly a spitfire but they can enjoy imagining flying one as they look at their bedroom walls with this fabulous design. I’ve a feeling plenty of dads will like it too – it would be perfect for his home office too 🙂
Spitfires is available in 4 colourways and can be purchased online here.
Another anniversary design and launch is that of the Festival wallpaper by Mini Moderns, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 1951 Festival of Britain and showcasing many of the iconic designs and architecture of the time. My favourite colourway is the Bunting blue and red and the Festival Wallpaper can be purchased online here.
If you are thinking of a nautical theme, then it’s the Whitby wallpapers by Mini Moderns for you. Inspired by a fishing seaside village on the north east coast, Whitby is a lovely retro design and is available online in 4 colourways.

cool that you think our paper is good for boys rooms as we have never sold any for kids rooms – maybe this post will double our sales!

Yes, I think the Whitby and the Festival are fab – eyeing up the festival for my son’s room when we do some decorating later in the autumn (when the cows go dry and I can persuade my husband to do some wallpapering) 🙂
