In the Rain by Ferm Living is a beautiful wallpaper for children’s nurseries. It’s of beautiful quality being non-woven and almost feels like a fabric.

It features clutches of houses as if they are small villages. Friendly clouds drop warm raindrops (well, they look warm!!) and hand-drawn animals are seen scattered throughout the village. My favourite character has to be the cycling rabbit with a balloon.

There’s Something About Wallpaper

What is it about wallpaper that makes a room feel special, feel loved in, turns a house into a home?

There are some rooms that lend themselves more to wallpaper than others I think, and by that I mean, wallpaper can really transform them.

I love wallpaper in ‘good’ sitting rooms. I think wallpaper can make a room that isn’t used that often, feel really cosy and comfortable rather than feeling rather bare and cold. I detest rooms that feel cold, yes, a warm colour in paint can warm them up but you can’t beat a wallpaper that fits the look of the room for adding character and comfort.

I often think that downstairs loos can be a tad bare too. Often quite small, there is usually just room for the toilet and a small sink, perhaps a small bin on the floor. Wallpaper doesn’t take up any room! I’ve found that the ‘Un Dimanche A Paris’ to be a really popular wallpaper for the smallest room in the house - people like it as it is stylish, quirky, fun, brightly coloured and it isn’t too expensive either.

Master Bedroom – wallpaper on the feature wall behind the bed definitely adds something to the main bedroom – be it drama, cosiness, more colour, more interest or perhaps all of the above. The only thing I don’t like about wallpaper in the bedroom is if it matches the curtains – I prefer designs that co-ordinate rather than match exactly.

Shading Saraille Wallpaper by Designers Guild

Designers Guild have just launched their new collections and looking at the new Castellani wallpaper, the Saraille wallpaper struck me as something different. It is available in 5 vivid colours that go from a very strong hue to a white. The wallpaper can be hung so the strong colour is either at the top or the bottom.

I’m not actually sure yet if I like it or not – I love the strong colours and I do like the shading, I’m just not sure if I like it shading down to white. What do you think?

Wall stickers are a great way to brighten up a wall, whether it is adding a finishing touch or to create a feature.

How to Make a Low Room Appear Higher

Have you got low ceilings in your home? Do you want to make the room appear taller?

One of the easiest ways to achieve this is to paint the ceiling a light colour and include vertical stripes on the walls. You can paint vertical stripes but unless it’s a child’s bedroom, this might not look the best which is why I’m suggesting wallpaper.

However, wallpaper with rigid stripes can look quite regimental, what I like are wallpapers with a very very subtle vertical stripe and one of my favourites has to be the Chairs design by Barneby Gates.

Featuring a number of chairs in different styles along a vertical line and separated by a rope design, the chairs are placed rather haphazardly but the double stripe still works. Available in two colourways, this is my new favourite ‘Striped’ wallpaper.

Coming in four colourways – Blueberries, Cocoa, zesty Orange and soft Soda, there’s a colour to suit every mood you might like to create:

Isn’t the design pretty? I’m loving the shapes of the teapot and teacup and the jelly or blancmange.

Wallpaper Panels – Perfect for Feature Walls

Bird Wallpaper: English Robin

English Robin Wallpaper – there are so many bird wallpapers available now that it can be hard to choose just one to write about. I’m actually slightly spooked by birds in fabric and wallpaper – it is almost like I feel they will come to life and fly around the room. When a friend purchased a bird fabric for her bedroom, I just looked at her in amazement, knowing that I’d never be able to sleep with bird fabric fluttering in a summer breeze. I’m not afraid of actual bird though so it’s all a bit bizarre. Maybe I saw ‘The Birds’ at a young age!

English Robin by Barneby Gates is a lovely design, I love the berries on the branches and the robins sitting sedately. I’m not so sure about the larger robin flying but that’s my weird hangup I think!

What rooms would you choose for these wallpapers? I’d love the cream one in a bedroom if I didn’t have a hangup about birds and the jade in a hall or study. It would look fabulous in a boutique or a salon too. You can buy both these bird wallpapers online right here.
