Black and white don’t have to be masculine, in fact, they can be very feminine depending on the textures and patterns that are incorporated into the design. Here’s some black bedrooms with some striking wallpapers.

Black wallpaper can be very dramatic and dignified, whichever room it is used in. Softened with a floral pattern (as in the Sanderson wallpaper above), other colours from the pattern can be selected and used in other furnishings or accessories. Do you think the room above ‘works’? I’m not sure – I don’t think the pale walls and curtains lend enough drama to the room, instead they look rather insipid in my opinion – I feel a curtain that lightened the look but added drama would work better and the white walls pose too much of a contrast to the black feature wall. So what colours would I opt for? I would prefer light grey carpet and warm grey paint on the walls – they would be in a similar tone to the black and would still lighten the look but would be warm. I would have plain bedlinen with the exception of some cushions and instead, have pattern in the curtains which would bring the red and creams into the scheme.
The Nina Campbell wallpaper is certainly dramatic and I love the way the grey carpet is of similar tones but lightens it. The vivid green accessories work well too and an off white pink/cream tones would also work well in this bedroom/dressing room. You can see in the bedroom below that greys/blacks/offwhites look great with hints of vivid pinks and greens.
